HubSpot Update: Draggable Chat Widget

Ben Binary:

Alright, everyone. Welcome back. Glad to have you with us for another deep dive.

Luna Logic:

Yeah. It's gonna be a good one.

Ben Binary:

So, you know, we try to keep our fingers on the pulse of everything going on in the HubSpot universe.

Luna Logic:

Yeah. Absolutely. Trying to stay on top of all the new features, all the updates.

Ben Binary:

And one of the things that popped up on our radar recently

Luna Logic:

oh, what is it?

Ben Binary:

Was this update that HubSpot pushed out on November 12th Okay. Talking about a new draggable chat widget.

Luna Logic:

Interesting.

Ben Binary:

So we wanted to take a minute today

Luna Logic:

Yeah.

Ben Binary:

To really unpack what that means.

Luna Logic:

Yeah. What is that all about?

Ben Binary:

Both for website users and also for people managing their websites through HubSpot.

Luna Logic:

Absolutely. For the admins too.

Ben Binary:

And, you know, at first glance, you're kinda like, oh, a draggable chat widget?

Luna Logic:

Yeah.

Ben Binary:

Okay. Big whoop. Right?

Luna Logic:

Sounds kind of a minor thing.

Ben Binary:

But I have to say, how many times have you been on a website

Luna Logic:

Oh my gosh.

Ben Binary:

And that little chat widget is just stuck Yeah. Right in the middle of the screen?

Luna Logic:

Right over the content you're trying to read. Oh,

Ben Binary:

read the article.

Luna Logic:

Yeah. You're trying to click the button to buy something.

Ben Binary:

Exactly. And it's like this little

Luna Logic:

It's in the web. Box in the way. It's a barrier.

Ben Binary:

Yeah. And I think HubSpot's really recognizing Yeah. This emphasis on user experience

Luna Logic:

Absolutely.

Ben Binary:

Which is something that we talk about all the time.

Luna Logic:

All the time.

Ben Binary:

And so I think it's really interesting that they're making this change.

Luna Logic:

It's interesting. Yeah. And I I think it it highlights a couple things. Right? It highlights HubSpot's commitment to trying to make things better for the end user.

Luna Logic:

Right? So the people who are visiting these websites that have the HubSpot chat enabled

Ben Binary:

Right.

Luna Logic:

They're thinking about those folks, but they're also thinking about the companies and the businesses and the organizations that are using their software.

Ben Binary:

Exactly.

Luna Logic:

So they're trying to find that that balance, and it's really cool that they're able to address both of those issues with a pretty simple fix.

Ben Binary:

And I think that's one of the things that's really genius about this Yeah. Is it is a simple fix

Luna Logic:

Yeah. Absolutely.

Ben Binary:

User's perspective. You literally just drag it.

Luna Logic:

Drag and drop. Super easy.

Ben Binary:

You want it in the bottom right corner? Fine.

Luna Logic:

Out of the way. You want it In the top left.

Ben Binary:

Yeah. Top left. Go for it.

Luna Logic:

Put it wherever you want.

Ben Binary:

And then from the admin perspective Yeah. It's literally a toggle.

Luna Logic:

In the settings? Yeah. It's that easy.

Ben Binary:

So it's really not

Luna Logic:

Super simple to implement.

Ben Binary:

A heavy lift

Luna Logic:

Yeah.

Ben Binary:

For anybody involved.

Luna Logic:

Yeah. And speaking of implementation, one of the things that I found really interesting when I was digging into this update is that HubSpot is making this feature available to certain tiers of users.

Ben Binary:

Oh, interesting.

Luna Logic:

So to be clear, it's not available for everybody.

Ben Binary:

Okay.

Luna Logic:

It's available for CMS Enterprise. Okay. CMS Pro.

Ben Binary:

Got it.

Luna Logic:

Marketing Enterprise. Marketing Pro.

Ben Binary:

Okay.

Luna Logic:

Sales Enterprise, Sales Pro Service Enterprise, and Service Pro.

Ben Binary:

So all the pro and enterprise accounts.

Luna Logic:

Yeah. So if you're on the free version of HubSpot

Ben Binary:

Right.

Luna Logic:

This is not gonna be something that you have access to.

Ben Binary:

Okay. So it is a paid feature?

Luna Logic:

It is a paid feature. Yeah.

Ben Binary:

So that's interesting.

Luna Logic:

It is interesting. Right? It makes you wonder why why they would choose to do that. Right? What's the strategy there?

Ben Binary:

Right. Is it just a way to encourage people?

Luna Logic:

To upgrade.

Ben Binary:

Yeah. To upgrade to a paid

Luna Logic:

Yeah. Account? Yeah.

Ben Binary:

Or is there something else at play?

Luna Logic:

Yeah. I mean, it could be that they're looking at the data and saying, you know what? The people who are really complaining about this, the people who are really benefiting from this feature are the ones who are on these higher tier plans.

Ben Binary:

Right.

Luna Logic:

So maybe it's a way to kinda cater to

Ben Binary:

To higher paying customers.

Luna Logic:

To your higher paying customers. Right? Exactly.

Ben Binary:

And, also, you know, maybe they're the ones with the bigger websites.

Luna Logic:

That's true. Yeah.

Ben Binary:

More complex layouts.

Luna Logic:

Yeah. Maybe there's more need for that dragability. Exactly. And you've got a lot of content and a lot of different elements on the page.

Ben Binary:

Right. So maybe that's part of their thinking.

Luna Logic:

Could be.

Ben Binary:

But it does raise a question for me.

Luna Logic:

Oh, what's that?

Ben Binary:

What about mobile?

Luna Logic:

Ah, yeah.

Ben Binary:

Because they, very specifically in the update Yeah. Talk about web chat flows. So does that mean that folks who are using HubSpot on their phones

Luna Logic:

Yeah.

Ben Binary:

Are just stuck with those

Luna Logic:

With those pesky

Ben Binary:

Pesky Yeah.

Luna Logic:

Nondraggable chat widgets? It's a really good question. And it's something that I haven't seen HubSpot address specifically yet, so it's hard to say for sure. I think it's definitely something to keep an eye on because mobile optimization is so important these days.

Ben Binary:

Absolutely.

Luna Logic:

So you would think that if they're focused on improving user experience

Ben Binary:

Yeah.

Luna Logic:

They're gonna wanna bring that same level of functionality to the mobile experience.

Ben Binary:

Right.

Luna Logic:

So whether it's something that's coming down the pipeline or not, I don't know. But it's definitely something that I would be advocating for if I were a HubSpot user.

Ben Binary:

Yeah. For sure. And, you know, it makes me wonder if this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Luna Logic:

Oh, interesting.

Ben Binary:

Right? Like, is this the beginning of a trend

Luna Logic:

Yeah.

Ben Binary:

Where we start to see more draggable elements on websites?

Luna Logic:

I mean, imagine being able to rearrange an entire web page to your liking.

Ben Binary:

Oh my gosh. Could you imagine?

Luna Logic:

Move the header down here. Move the sidebar over there. Put the footer up at the top. Yeah.

Ben Binary:

Like a completely modular website

Luna Logic:

Totally modular.

Ben Binary:

That you just kinda Drag and drop and build it yourself. Yeah. Build your own.

Luna Logic:

That'll be pretty wild.

Ben Binary:

That would be amazing. It would be.

Luna Logic:

It would be.

Ben Binary:

I would love that so much.

Luna Logic:

It would be a whole new level of personalization

Ben Binary:

Right.

Luna Logic:

Which is something that I think we're seeing more and more of in other areas of tech.

Ben Binary:

Absolutely.

Luna Logic:

So why not websites?

Ben Binary:

Yeah. So what do you think all this means for our listeners?

Luna Logic:

Well, I think it's something to think about.

Ben Binary:

Okay.

Luna Logic:

The next time you're on a website and you come across one of those chat widgets

Ben Binary:

Right.

Luna Logic:

Is it annoying you?

Ben Binary:

Yeah.

Luna Logic:

Is it in your way?

Ben Binary:

Yeah.

Luna Logic:

Are you wishing you could just drag it out of the way? Totally. And if so Yeah. Maybe it's time to start thinking about how you can implement that kind of functionality on your own website.

Ben Binary:

Yeah. If you are a HubSpot user Absolutely. This is something that's available to you.

Luna Logic:

So take advantage of it.

Ben Binary:

Yeah. Check it out.

Luna Logic:

Yeah. I think it just speaks to HubSpot's commitment to listening to their users

Ben Binary:

Absolutely. And trying to make their platform better and better. Yeah. Constantly evolving and improving

Luna Logic:

Exactly.

Ben Binary:

And trying to keep up with what people want and need.

Luna Logic:

That's right.

Ben Binary:

Alright. Well, we are super curious to hear what you think.

Luna Logic:

Yeah.

Ben Binary:

What other elements on a website would you wanna be able to drag around?

Luna Logic:

What would you like to control?

Ben Binary:

Let us know on social media.

Luna Logic:

Absolutely. We'd love to hear from you.

Ben Binary:

In the meantime, keep diving deep.

Luna Logic:

Keep exploring.

Ben Binary:

And we'll catch you on the next one.
